REFLECTION

“For the Kingdom” is the theme for our reflection. The Kingdom of God has two important meanings. First, it means the dominion or reign of God over our lives on earth. Second, the Kingdom of God is the eternal and dwelling place of God which shall be inherited by faithful believers who were under God’s dominion. It is also known as heaven. We live for the Kingdom of God because the earth and everything in it is ephemeral. In other words, the earth shall come to end and God’s children shall be ushered into the Kingdom. The Psalmist acknowledges this fact when he wrote that “All your works praise you, LORD;
your faithful people extol you. They tell of the glory of your kingdom and speak of your might, so that all people may know of your mighty acts and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. (Psalms 145:10-13)

Beloved in the Lord, if we are truly living for the Kingdom of God, then we surrender ourselves to the Lord and allow His will to be done in our lives. We must understand that the Kingdom of God or the dominion of God over our lives reign supreme over or above any human Kingdom or power. We have had human rulers and kingdoms rise and fall but the Kingdom of God or His dominion is everlasting. To live for and to enter the Kingdom of God, we must, first of all, accept Jesus and do the will of God. It is for this reason, Jesus admonishes us that “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21) In other words, one cannot experience the dominion of God and also inherit it without accepting Jesus Christ as His Lord and Saviour and doing the will of God. Paul reminds us that “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. (Titus 3:4-7). Jesus himself assures us that God’s will for humanity is to be saved and become partakers of His Kingdom, ” For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.” (John 3:16-17). Dear friend in the Lord, have you surrendered yourself to God’s dominion through repentance, faith and obedience to His Word? Are you living your life to be found worthy of the Kingdom of God when Jesus returns the second time to judge the world? Paul admonished us that “…my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2:12-13) May God’s dominion reign supreme in our lives and may we be found worthy of the Kingdom of God in this lent season and beyond. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty God, may we continue to experience your dominion over our lives even as we prepare to inherit your glorious Kingdom. Amen
