REFLECTION

“The power and the glory” is the theme for reflection. The power of God means the authority and dominion of God over heaven and earth. The glory of God, on the other hand, refers to God’s majestic presence, splendour, and honour. David was approaching his last days on earth, therefore, he initiated the project of providing the essential and expensive materials needed for the building of the temple so that his son, King Solomon’s work will be made easier when it is time to build the temple. King David himself gave an appreciable quantity of materials such as gold and silver among others out of his resources. His donation encouraged others to also give in large quantities. He had overwhelming support from other leaders of Israel. After David had succeeded in gathering substantial and valuable materials for the building of the temple, he prayed and praised the Lord acknowledging His power and glory in the life of Israel. “Praise be to you, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all.(1 Chronicles 29:10-11)

Dear friend, we must follow David’s example of always appreciating and praising God for His power and the manifestation of His glory in his life and that of the nation Israel. Without the power and the glory of God in our lives, we shall fail in our endeavours and will be vulnerable. It is for this reason, David acknowledged the fact that “Wealth and honour come from you; you are the ruler of all things. In your hands are strength and power to exalt and give strength to all. Now, our God, we give you thanks, and praise your glorious name. (1 Chronicles 29:12-13) Beloved in the Lord, had it not been for the manifestation of God’s power and glory in our lives we would have been nonentities but He continues to be faithful to us by bestowing upon us wealth and honour as a King does to his princes and princesses. Indeed, through the power of the Holy Spirit, we share and are beneficiaries of the power and glory of God, it is for this reason, those who remain faithful to God are exalted and given strength to be victorious, “For in him we live and move and have our being.’ (Acts 17:28). Let us live a life of gratitude and develop the habit of praising God for His power and glory in our lives, it is one of the ways of witnessing to the world about God and also demonstrating to God that we are mere mortals and are absolutely worthless without Him. God is not only praised by earthly beings, John tells us that heavenly creatures do praise God in acknowledgement of His power and glory, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honour and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4:11) May the lent season remind us that we are mere mortals, therefore, we must repent, humble ourselves and acknowledge God’s power and glory in our lives for all that He has done and continues to do in our lives. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty God, we praise You and dedicate our lives and all that we have to You all the days of our lives. Merciful God, continue to exalt and strengthen us in our life’s journey so that we shall remain victorious and successful in all our endeavours through the manifestation of Your power and glory in our lives. Amen
