REFLECTION

Worship in heaven is the theme for our reflection. Worship in heaven means that believers who are true worshippers (John 4:19:23-24) on earth will at the return of Jesus be found worthy to join the host of celestial beings in the Holy City or the dwelling place of God to give glory, honour and reverence to the Lord. John’s revelation gives believers who were going through persecution hope and encouragement to continue to be faithful to God. Their suffering shall pass away just as this heaven and earth will give way to a new heaven and earth to usher them into God’s glorious heavenly city. John reveals that “… I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God (Revelation 21:1-3)

Dear friend in the Lord, the way and manner we offer ourselves to serve and worship God on earth will show whether or not we shall qualify as worshippers in heaven. We must continue to persevere and worship God on earth regardless of our challenges or situations on earth, for Jesus had already assured us that “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me so that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1-3) John’s revelation only confirms Jesus’ promise to come back in the future to usher the true worshippers to heaven which is God’s dwelling place. Dear friend, It is for this reason, we must live a heaven-focused and purpose-driven life as believers and worshippers. True worshippers are always prepared for Heaven because they are already living a life of worship which is pleasing to God at all times. Beloved in the Lord, we cannot qualify to worship in heaven if we are not found worthy to be true worshippers on earth. The only way we can become worshippers in heaven is when we continue to live by faith and not by sight and always make it our goal or focus to please God with our lives on earth. Paul’s admonishment to the Church of Corinth teaches us that our worship does not end on earth but continues in heaven after we are found worthy on the day of judgement. Paul wrote that “For we live by faith, not by sight. We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord. So we make it our goal to please him, whether we are at home in the body or away from it. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad. (2 Corinthians 5:7-10). Jesus further gives assurance to believers who will worship God in total endurance and faith on earth, He assures us to “Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as your victor’s crown. (Revelation 2:10). It is the victor’s crown that identifies us and gives us identity as true worshippers in heaven. In other words, “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving (worshipping). Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for their wrongs, and there is no favouritism” (Colossians 3:23-25). The choice is ours today, let us worship God faithfully on earth and be found worthy as true worshippers in heaven. Shalom.

PRAYER

Dear Lord Jesus, may our faithfulness and life of worship on earth be acknowledged in heaven so that when You return to judge the world, we shall be found worthy to join the true worshippers in heaven. Amen.
