SUNDAY REFLECTION
Walking in step with the Spirit is the theme for our reflection. Walking in step with the Spirit means being guided and living a transformed life through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. We shall consider the following points:
- Walking in step with the Spirit causes miracles to happen in our lives.
- Walking in step with the Spirit enables us to understand and abide by the Word of God thereby becoming productive believers.
Firstly, when we walk in step with the Spirit, miracles happen in our lives. Isaac prayed to God, and a miracle happened in Rebekah’s life, She became pregnant. When we have a covenant relationship with God, His Spirit intervenes in our struggles and challenges, and the impossible becomes possible. “Isaac prayed to the LORD for his wife, because she was barren. And the LORD granted his prayer, and Rebekah his wife conceived. (Genesis 25:21). Beloved in the Lord, if we have a relationship with God and walk in step with the Spirit, our needs are met. God reveals His glory in our lives through the power of the Spirit, which is at work in us. It is, for this reason, Paul assures us that “the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God, all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose… “(Romans 8:26-28). I do not know what is lacking in your life but what I do know is that if the Spirit of God intervened in Sarah, Rebekah and Hannah’s bareness, He will also cause a miracle to happen in our life if we walk in step with Him. Jesus further assures us that regardless of the obstacles in our lives, “With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” (Mark 10:27). When we walk in step with the Spirit, we are empowered to overcome the obstacles and challenges in our lives, we are assured by the Lord that it is “‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.” (Zechariah 4:6)
Secondly, Walking in step with the Spirit enables us to understand and abide by the Word of God thereby becoming productive believers. In the Parable of the sower “the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.” (Matthew 13:23). Without walking in step with the Spirit, we will not be able to hear and understand the Word of God, “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot. Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact, the Spirit of God dwells in you.” (Romans 8:7-9). Walking in step with the Spirit prevents us from becoming hostile to God but rather hear, understand and obey His Word to produce fruits of the Spirit. It is, for this reason, Jesus assures us that ““All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:25-26)
In summary, the theme for our reflection is “Walking in step with the Spirit” and the points that we have identified are; walking in step with the Spirit causes miracles to happen in our lives, again, walking in step with the Spirit enables us to understand and abide by the Word of God thereby becoming productive believers. May the Holy Spirit order our steps to remain fruitful even as we experience the glory of God in our lives. Amen.
