REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “He will do this”. “He will do this” is the certainty and assurance of God fulfilling His promise and desire in our lives. We shall reflect on the questions, what will God do in our lives? and, why will He do it?
Firstly, what will God do in our lives? Paul says that the God of peace will sanctify us completely and keep us blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He wrote to the Church of Thessalonica to assure them that “Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Sanctification means God setting us apart from the world for His own purpose. Sanctification takes place through repentance, regeneration and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:10 gives us the assurance that “we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.” To be sanctified means to be declared holy to approach God and to have an everlasting relationship with Him. It goes to reason that without sanctification we cannot have a relationship with God and consequently inherit the Kingdom of God. It is for this reason, Peter greatly admonishes us when he wrote that “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:14-16). Again, Paul also admonished that, “do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, 10 nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). God has promised those who have accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour that He will keep them sanctified and blameless.
Secondly, after God has sanctified us through Christ Jesus, He has promised to be faithful in ensuring that we are completely kept blameless until the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. In other words, those of us who have been sanctified through Jesus Christ, continue to experience God’s faithfulness in keeping us “blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul assures us that 24 He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it. 1 (Thessalonians 5:23-24). We already see God’s faithfulness to keep us sanctified and blameless when Jesus assured His disciples in Matthew 28:20 that “…behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20). Again, we see God’s faithfulness in keeping us sanctified and blameless until our final day of redemption, when Jesus assured the disciples that “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26) In other word, God’s faithfulness in keeping us sanctified and blameless is through the power of the Holy Spirit. Beloved in the Lord, the God who has promised is faithful but how can His promise be fulfilled in our lives if we do not allow Him to sanctify us and keep us blameless? Someone has said that, if you do not go to heaven do not blame Jesus. Truly, we live in an era where God’s steadfast love, grace and faithfulness are abundantly available to everyone. God appears to be overlooking our disobedience but continuously calls us through the preaching of the Good News or the Gospel so that we shall repent, be sanctified and appear blameless at the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is important to also note that regardless of how lost the world is God remains faithful to those whom He has sanctified and kept blameless. He will register their names in the Book of Life. Dear friend, what will happen if you ignore God’s steadfast love and faithfulness to keep your spirit, soul, and body sanctified and blameless at the coming of Jesus Christ? John gives us the answer in Revelation 20:11-15, when he wrote that “Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. 14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.” It is for this reason, Paul makes a passionate appeal to us to remain sanctified and blameless in the Lord when he wrote in Romans 12:1 that “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
In summary, we have meditated on the theme, “He will do it” We reflected on the following questions, “what will God do in our lives? and why will He do it?”. In answering the foregoing questions, we have learnt that God will sanctify and keep those who are in Christ blameless. He will sanctify and keep us blameless at the coming of Jesus Christ because He is faithful and does what He has promised. Shalom.
