REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is not dead but asleep. A dead person is lifeless, but a person who is asleep is alive but only temporarily unconscious, inactive, and resting. Not dead, but asleep is an invitation and assurance by Jesus Christ to have faith that makes the impossible possible.

Dear friend in the Lord, “not dead, but asleep” is an invitation to we those who believe in Jesus to see life from the perspective of faith and hope rather than despair. “While Jesus was still speaking, some people came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue leader. “Your daughter is dead,” they said. “Why bother the teacher anymore?” 36 Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, “Don’t be afraid; just believe.”.. When they came to the home of the synagogue leader, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly. 39 He went in and said to them, “Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.” 40 But they laughed at him…He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha koum!” (which means “Little girl, I say to you, get up!”). 42 Immediately the girl stood up and began to walk around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.” (Mark 5:35-36,38-40,41-42). In other words, it takes faith for the dead to be declared as only sleeping hence having the ability to get up! Hebrews 11:1 defines faith Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) Beloved in the Lord, your dead situation will become only a sleeping situation which will revive soon only if you believe, “without faith, it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). Jesus said to Martha, “Your brother will rise again.” 24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.” 25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, 26 and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?” (John 11:23-26). We are greatly encouraged to believe in Jesus for He has assured us that “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26) I do not know what you are going through as you read this reflection but I can assure you that your situation is not a dead one, you are only experiencing a sleeping situation, “but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40:31)

In summary, we have reflected on the theme “not dead, but asleep” Not dead, but asleep is an invitation and assurance by Jesus Christ to have faith that makes the impossible possible. Shalom.
