REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “life after death.” Life after death refers to the eternal life.
We shall meditate on the following facts about the life after death:
1. Life after death is reserved for those who endure suffering on account of Jesus Christ.
2. Life after death grants us access to our transfigured heavenly bodies.
3 Life after death is our reward on the judgement day.

Firstly, life after death is reserved for those who will endure suffering on account of their faith in Jesus Christ.“For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, 18 as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). It is for this reason Jesus assures us that “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven (Matthew 5:11-12). Life after death is for those who persevere in faith and endure suffering to the end.

Secondly, life after death will usher us into our new nature or lead to a transfiguration of our earthly body where we shall experience the eternal glory of God. “For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, 3 if indeed by putting it on we may not be found naked. 4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. 5 He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.” (2 Corinthians 5:1-5). Similarly, we are told in the book of Revelations that “… each of them was given a white robe, and they were told to wait a little longer, until the full number of their fellow servants, their brothers and sisters, who were killed just as they had been. (Revelation 6:11). In other words, life after death means all faithful believers shall experience the glorious transformation or transfiguration into their heavenly nature.

Thirdly, life after death is the reward we receive after we have been judged. “So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. 11 Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. (2 Corinthians 5:9-11) Again we are reminded in Hebrews 9:26-28 that Jesus “….has appeared once for all at the culmination of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself. 27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.” If we desire and yearn for life after death on the judgement day then we must have a covenant relationship with Jesus and walk with God faithfully. This what Paul meant when he wrote that “work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14 Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, 16 holding fast to the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I may be proud that I did not run in vain or labour in vain.” (Philippians 2:12-16)

In summary, we have examined the theme “life after death” We have discovered that life after death is reserved for those who are faithful and endure suffering on account of Jesus Christ, life after death grants us access to our transfigured heavenly bodies, last but not least, life after death is our reward on the judgementday. Shalom.
