REFLECTION
Making us holy to serve is the theme for our reflection. To make holy to serve means to be declared free from sin or morally pure according to God’s standards and consecrated for the Lord’s glory. We shall reflect on the fact that God makes us Holy to serve Him because He is Holy.
Beloved in the Lord, God makes us holy to serve Him because He is Holy. Leviticus 4:1-35 acknowledges the sin of omission and offers remedies or procedures for atonement, restoration and forgiveness through burnt offerings thus “the priest shall burn it on the altar on top of the food offerings presented to the LORD. In this way, the priest will make atonement for them for the sin they have committed, and they will be forgiven.” (Leviticus 4:35) The priest is guided on how to carry out atonement offerings or sacrifices for himself, the community and individuals who sin inadvertently but later come to acknowledge their sins.
Dear friend in Christ, the essence of the commandment in Leviticus 4:1-34 is that sin renders God’s people unholy to serve Him or sin makes us unworthy instruments for His glory therefore God has provided a ceremonial process of atonement to render us holy before Him. Holiness is central to our relationship with God and must be preserved always. The only remarkable difference is that Jesus has replaced the animals used for the burnt offerings and atonement. It is for this reason that John the Baptist testified, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29). Jesus is the ultimate sacrificial lamp that makes us holy to serve God through repentance and faith. Peter admonishes us that “just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.” 17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. (1 Peter 1:15-19). In other words, whether we commit the sin of commission or omission, we need no other sacrifice of atonement but to come to Jesus for forgiveness, restoration and regeneration so that our lives will be made holy and pleasing to God.
In summary, we have meditated on the theme, “Making us Holy to serve” We have discovered that God makes us holy to serve him because He is Holy. Anyone who desires to be holy and serve God must repent and have faith in Jesus Christ as God’s final and ultimate sacrifice of atonement which renders us holy and pleasing to Him. Shalom.
PRAYER
Thank you Jesus for making us holy and pleasing to the Lord. May the Holy Spirit strengthen and sustain us to live a life of holiness and service to the glory of God. Amen.
