REFLECTION
The theme for reflection is “Come with your entire household”. A household refers to the occupants of a house. Usually, a household is made up of a family. “Come with your entire household” is an invitation to salvation from God to us. We shall reflect on the fact that when we lead our household to trust, obey and serve God, He will make provision for our salvation.
Beloved in the Lord, believers, especially parents, have an obligation or divine duty to ensure that they lead their family or household to trust, obey and serve the Lord in our sinful or corrupt generation. Like Noah’s time, God may bring His wrath upon the earth again because of our disobedience. We are told “God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth.” (Genesis 6:12-13) However, Noah and his family found favour with the Lord. “The LORD then said to Noah, “Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation…And Noah and his sons and his wife and his son’s wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. (Genesis 7:1,7). Beloved in the Lord, Christian parents are shepherds to their household. Christian parents must lead their household to acknowledge God as the Lord and sustainer of the house and its members. It must be the paramount aim of parents to teach and practice the Word of God at home so that they will set good examples and also raise a righteous family and generation through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit.
We are greatly admonished in the book of Proverbs that “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it. (Proverbs 22:6). Eli, the Priest failed to train his household therefore the Lord said to Samuel “At that time I will carry out against Eli everything I spoke against his family—from beginning to end. 13 For I told him that I would judge his family forever because of the sin he knew about; his sons blasphemed God, and he failed to restrain them. 14 Therefore I swore to the house of Eli, ‘The guilt of Eli’s house will never be atoned for by sacrifice or offering.’” (1 Samuel 3:12-14). In contrast to Eli’s children, Timothy grew up to serve the Lord because he came from a godly household. Paul wrote, “I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” (2 Timothy 1:5)
To ensure that our households live a righteous life to please God, we must develop a culture of Bible Studies, prayer and regular attendance to Church and church-related activities. Godly parents raise godly households and godly households become a godly society of righteous people with integrity.
It is important to note that the Church is also a household of God. Church leaders are required to follow the perfect example of Jesus Christ in guiding the household of God. Pastors and other church leaders have the divine obligation to preach and lead the members of the Church to focus on God and obey His Word. Failure to lead the household of God in righteousness will lead to judgement, it is for this reason, James cautioned us that “Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. (James 3:1). It must be the aim of every parent and church leader to ensure that we lead our various households according to the will of God so that in the end, we and our household shall be saved or invited to come into the Kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
In summary, we have reflected on the theme “Come with your entire household” We have discovered that when we lead our household to trust, obey and serve God, He will make provision for our salvation. Shalom.
PRAYER
