THE PEOPLE’S DEDICATION TO FULFILLING GOD’S LAW (NEHEMIAH 10:28-39) LENT DAY 28

REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “The people’s dedication to fulfilling God’s law” The theme means that the people of Israel unanimously resolved to obey the Word of God. We shall reflect on the fact that in our covenant relationship with God, our main or fundamental obligation or responsibility as the people of God is to obey Him or dedicate ourselves to fulfilling His command.

Beloved in the Lord, God our purpose as people of God is to trust, obey and worship Him. God owes us nothing and requires nothing from us apart from our dedication to His law or obedience to His Word. To prove their repentance and dedication to fulfilling the law of God, “The rest of the people—priests, Levites, gatekeepers, musicians, temple servants and all who separated themselves from the neighboring peoples for the sake of the Law of God, together with their wives and all their sons and daughters who are able to understand— 29 all these now join their fellow Israelites the nobles, and bind themselves with a curse and an oath to follow the Law of God given through Moses the servant of God and to obey carefully all the commands, regulations and decrees of the LORD our Lord.” (Nehemiah 10:28-29) Dear friend, obedience to God’s Word has always been a perquisite to the enjoyment of His covenant promise and relationship. It is for this reason Moses admonished the Israelites, “Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do… For I command you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in obedience to him, and to keep his commands, decrees and laws; then you will live and increase, and the LORD your God will bless you in the land you are entering to possess. 17 But if your heart turns away and you are not obedient, and if you are drawn away to bow down to other gods and worship them, 18 I declare to you this day that you will certainly be destroyed. (Deuteronomy 29:9, 30:16-18). Dedicating ourselves to fulfilling God’s law through the study of His Word is non-negotiable. It is the foundation of our spiritual lives!

Again, the only way to demonstrate our love and faithfulness to God is to obey His commandment. It is for this reason, Jesus said, ““If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. ” (John 14:15-17). Beloved in the Lord, how dedicated are you to fulfilling God’s Law in your life? How often do you study His Word or Commandment in a week? We can never compromise the place of the Word of God in our lives. Nothing can replace the importance of God’s law and its obedience. It is for this reason Samuel said to Saul ““Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22) This Lent season offers the opportunity to cultivate the habit of studying and obeying the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit as people and as individuals.

In summary we have reflected on the theme “The people’s dedication to fulfilling God’s law” We have discovered that in our covenant relationship with God, our main obligation or responsibility as the people of God is to obey Him or dedicate ourselves to fulfilling His command. Shalom.

PRAYER
Holy Spirit strengthen us to remain obedient to the Word of God daily. May we never depart from His command and teachings so that His grace and glory will continually manifest in our lives. Amen.
