WALKING ON WATER (MARK 6:45-56) LENT DAY 39
REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “Walking on water.” Walking on water is a humanly impossible activity, however, Jesus walked on water. In Matthew 19:26, Jesus assures us that “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” We shall reflect on the fact that we must take courage and not be afraid because we are not alone on the turbulent lake or sea of life. Jesus is always with us to calm the violent and strong winds of troubles and challenges so that we can sail safely to our destination.
Dear friend, The life we live is like the sea or a lake, full of storms, it takes faith to sail with Jesus on the lake of life. Remember that as we sail with Jesus, there will be strong and violent winds in the form of challenges which may be life-threatening in some cases. Like the disciples, we may be overwhelmed with fear when we encounter such strong or violent winds or challenges of life and as a result, our faith may dwindle. However, let our our faith and hope be rekindled by the words of Jesus Christ in Mark 6:50 when He said to the disciples on the lake, “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” This is the voice, assurance and phrase everyone needs, especially when we feel all hope is lost and nothing can be done about our precarious or unfortunate situation. We need to continually remind ourselves that Jesus is always with us although we cannot see Him, hence we must take courage and never be afraid! It takes faith to have courage and experience the presence of God through Christ. It is for this reason that Hebrew 11:6 greatly admonished us, “….without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
My beloved friend in Christ, as we come to the end of the Lent season, some of us may still be going through storms or strong winds of challenges in our marriages and relationships, unemployment may be the strong wind wrecking our lives, some of us may have experienced betrayal from people we loved and trusted and due to these disappointments from friends and family hope seems to be lost while fear and loneliness embraces us. Similarly, others are also battling poverty and diseases in their lives . In all these circumstances we are assured of Jesus’ presence in our lives. This is evident in Matthew 28:20 when Jesus said “…And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Let us be greatly encouraged in our walk of faith with Jesus through the Lent season and beyond and be assured that we are never alone. In His own time, He makes everything beautiful and glorifies Himself. Roman 8:28 reassures us that “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Again, like David let us be courageous and remain hopeful by declaring that “Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.” (Psalms 23:6). No matter your current precarious situation, all hope is not lost my dear brother or sister in the Lord for “but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31)
In summary, we have reflected on the theme, “Walking on Water”. We have discovered that we must take courage and not be afraid because we are not alone on the turbulent lake or sea of life. Jesus is always with us to calm the violent and strong winds of troubles and challenges so that we can sail safely to our destination. . Shalom.
