GOD’S CARE FOR HIS CREATURES (MATTHEW 10:28-31)

REFLECTION

“God’s care for His creatures” is the theme for our reflection. Care is the provision of what is necessary for the health, welfare, maintenance, and protection of someone or something. God’s care for His creatures means God provides the needs of both human beings and animals. We shall reflect on the fact that we must not be anxious because God cares for His creatures.

Beloved in the Lord, the enemy of faith is anxiety. We become anxious when our security or safety is threatened. Jesus greatly assured both our eternal and earthly security and protection in the hands of God when He said “Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground outside your Father’s care. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. (Matthew 10:28-31). David also experienced the caring hands of God upon His life when He wrote “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. (Psalms 23:1-3) Sometimes the spiritual, emotional, financial, relationship and economic challenges may seem overwhelming and frustrating but Paul reminds us to rest assured that God cares for us, in that, “all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Beloved in the Lord, we are not alone in our battles and challenges of life. Satan only uses fear to intimidate us and cause us to lose faith and hope in God. To overcome fear and rely on God, the writer of Hebrews, admonished us, “Without faith, it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11:6). Again, when Nebuchadnezzar threatened, Mershack, Shadrach and Abednego that he would throw them into the blazing furnace if they refused to worship his gods or the image of gold he had set up, believing that God cares for His own, they answered, “King Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you in this matter. 17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand. 18 But even if he does not, we want you to know, Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you have set up. (Daniel 3:16-18) Dear friend in the Lord, in the face of threats, danger, fear or anxiety can we demonstrate an unshakable faith in the salvation and care of God? Can we say with Job, “I know that my redeemer lives… (Job 19:25) when we experience anxiety or find ourselves in hopeless or challenging situations? Let us remember that God cares for us, hence, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13).

In summary, we have discovered that we must have faith and not be anxious because God cares for His creatures. Shalom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit strengthen our faith and help us to overcome fear or anxiety so that in all challenges we shall completely rely on the security and protection of the Lord. Amen.
