THE GLORIOUS WEDDING (SONG OF SONGS 3:6-10)

REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is the “Glorious Wedding” Glorious means having a striking beauty or splendour or magnificence. A wedding is a marriage ceremony. A glorious wedding therefore is a magnificent and memorable marriage ceremony. We reflect on the fact that a glorious wedding demonstrates the groom’s is readiness to marry, protect and be faithful to his bride or wife.

Dear friend in the Lord a wedding or marriage ceremony demonstrates to the world that the man or groom is ready to marry, protect and be faithful to his bride or wife. King Solomon proved to his beloved that he was ever prepared to honour and protect her “Look! It is Solomon’s carriage, escorted by sixty warriors, the noblest of Israel, 8 all of them wearing the sword, all experienced in battle, each with his sword at his side, prepared for the terrors of the night.”…Daughters of Jerusalem, 11 come out, and look, you daughters of Zion. Look on King Solomon wearing a crown, the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day of his wedding, the day his heart rejoiced. Song of Songs 3:10-11 (Song of Songs 3:7-8,10-11). In most cultures and traditions in the world, weddings are elaborate ceremonies that can go beyond a day. Wedding ceremonies indicate the groom’s readiness to protect, honour and love the bride. It also shows the honour or respect the groom has for the bride and her family. It is the wish of every parent that their son or daughter will enjoy the honour and blessings of a glorious wedding.

It is important to note that Solomon was a wealthy King therefore his glorious wedding saw a great caravan of horses and soldiers. Some men may not be as wealthy as Solomon but they can still observe a simple and glorious wedding depending on their financial strength to honour their bride. Weddings have become expensive because many prospective couples are focused on spending so much money on things that may only be important on the wedding day but have no long-lasting importance or relevance. We are to remember that the wedding is only a ceremony that ushers the couple into a life-long love relationship and commitment. Let’s spend wisely, do what is necessary and moderate. If we have the means we can spend lavishly on our wedding day but if we do not have the means then let us do what is appreciable and necessary.

Many young men are unable to marry because of the financial burden that comes with organizing weddings or marriage ceremonies. The family of the groom can support their son to observe a glorious wedding. Solomon did not go to his wedding alone, he was in the company of others and we are told his wedding crown was given to him by his mother. Let us support our young men to have a glorious wedding that will usher them into the beautiful institution of marriage.

In summary, we have discovered one of the importance of a wedding or marriage ceremony. We have learnt that a glorious wedding or marriage ceremony demonstrates that the man or groom is prepared to marry, protect and be faithful to his bride or wife. Shalom.

PRAYER

Almighty God, grant us the discernment and bless us with the resources we need to honour the institution of marriage. May those yet to marry be blessed financially to observe glorious weddings that will usher them into life-long and meaningful marriage relationships. Amen.
