WAIT FOR THE LORD (ISAIAH 40:25-31)
REFLECTION
“Wait for the Lord” is the theme for our reflection. To wait for the Lord means to hope, to anticipate, and to trust in the Lord’s salvation. We shall reflect on the fact that it is worth waiting for the Lord amid the troubles and challenges in the world.
Dear friend, just like the Israelite exiles who were been addressed by Prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 40:25-31, the corruption and waywardness of our society have affected the moral life and progress of our nation. Isaiah was addressing a people who had sinned against God by disobeying is commandment and believing in the gods of other nations. Their moral decadence severed their relationship with God hence their exile. The people cried and asked “where is our God in these difficult times?” The Israelites were in a state of despair and were wondering if God was able to save them from the Babylonians who had held them captive. They eagerly desired to return to their land and have their fortunes restored.
Beloved in the Lord our situation is not too remote from the times of Prophet Isaiah, our society has become so disorderly and weak to the extent that corruption, injustice and wickedness have taken us captives. Those who fear the Lord and who wish to do the will of God by restraining themselves from corruption, immorality and striving to follow the teachings and example Christ eventually become victims of conspiracy and the wicked plans of those with dead consciences. The innocent are being sacrificed for the enrichment and greed of the wicked. The poor continue to be cheated. The corrupt and wicked continue to milk the poor for their sustained affluence and luxurious lives. The abuse of power undermine the integrity and dignity of those who try to live an upright life. We can simply say our nation and for that matter the world is sick and we are in exile, far away from God. Is there any hope for the disciples of Christ?
Behold, there is good news for those who are faithful and hopeful but weary, Isaiah reaffirms God’s love for us in Isaiah 40:29 when he said, “God gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” And in Isaiah 40:31 the he reassures, “but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Regardless of what is happening in our nation, we those who have put their faith in the Lord shall be redeemed and revived to do great exploits to the glory of God. It is for this reason it is worth waiting for the Lord in hope, anticipation, trust and obedience.
In summary we have been greatly encouraged to wait for the Lord’s salvation irrespective of our struggles and challenges in the world. May the Holy empower us endure and remain resilient even as we await the day of the Lord.
PRAYER
Covenant and promise-keeping God, grant us the grace to wait for your ultimate Salvation even as we endure the temptations and challenges of the world. Amen.
