REFLECTION
Christ the light of the world is the theme for our reflection. Light is the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible. For our purpose, Christ is the light to those of us who are spiritually blind and are in the darkness of sin. We shall reflect on the fact that Christ the Light of the world is our hope and saviour in world darken with sin.
Beloved in the Lord Christ the Light of the world is our hope and salvation. Just as the exiles and remnants of Israel were assured of hope and God’s deliverance during the Babylonian captivity, when Jeremiah wrote, “For the LORD will deliver Jacob and redeem them from the hand of those stronger than they. (Jeremiah 31:11), Jesus Christ also came into the world as our light in the darkness and liberation from the captivity of Satan. It is for this reason, John wrote “In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it…Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God…No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:4-5,12-13, 18). In other words, we have become children of the light and of God because Christ, the light came into the world. Paul re-echoed this undeniable truth and testimony when he wrote to encourage the Church of Ephesus, In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace 8 that he lavished on us. With all wisdom and understanding, 9 he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times reach their fulfilment —to bring unity to all things in heaven and on earth under Christ” (Ephesians 1:7-10)
Beloved in the Lord, to remain in the light of holiness and righteousness, we must constantly be in the covenant relationship with Christ as children of the light. Paul reminds us that 5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness...For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:5&9) . Having been made children of the light we must eschew all forms of sins in our lives. Spouses must be faithful to each other, children must honour their parents, civil servants must work with integrity and be incorruptible, we must follow the perfect example of Christ in our daily dealings with our neighbours and remain obedient to the Word of God in interaction with the world. We are greatly encouraged to remain faithful disciples of Christ or the children of light” … so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky 16 as you hold firmly to the word of life. (Philippians 2:14-16)
In summary, we have reminded that Christ the Light of the world is our hope and saviour in dark and sinful world. May the Holy Spirit continue to illuminate the light of Christ in us even as we remain faithful disciples of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
