SHARING NEWS (COLOSSIANS 4:7-18)

REFLECTION

Sharing news is the theme for our reflection. News is a newly received or noteworthy information, especially about recent events. Paul in his concluding words and final greetings to the Colossians instruct them to share the information they have received from him in the form of a letter with other Christians. “Give my greetings to the brothers at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. And when this letter has been read among you, have it also read in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you also read the letter from Laodicea.” (Colossians 4:15-16). It should be noted that Paul was still in prison when he wrote his epistle to the Colossians.

The lesson for today’s reflection is that we must avail ourselves to be the sharers of noteworthy information or news of encouragement and edification with other people. Sharing news or the Good News which is the noteworthy information about Salvation in Christ was the core duty of the disciples of Christ and that was what Paul did even when he was in prison. (Matthew 28:18-20) Paul used reliable and trustworthy people filled with the Holy Spirit to share the Gospel and to instruct the Churches in overcoming issues that faced them.

We are in modern times and have been blessed with technology. Sharing news has become simple and more convenient in our era than any other era before ours. I am sure if Paul was to be in the 21st Century, he would have had access to a smart phone and directly send his letter to the churches and individuals through an email, WhatsApp and other available means through the use of information technology. Dear friend, we have no excuse and no impediment preventing us from sharing daily reflections on God’s word with others on our phones. We must be better sharers of the Good News than those who have gone before us because of the blessings and advantage of technology. By just hitting the share button you are able to share the Good News or Scripture reflections like “No Bible No Breakfast” with others for daily Scripture encouragement and edification. Some Christians of our time easily share news on scandalous and unwholesome issues about people but find it difficult to share news that will bring joy, peace and transformation to others. Instead of sharing pornography, leaked sex videos, immoral acts and songs let us rather share the Good News and pray that people are edified and transformed through the power of the Holy Spirit by the news we share with them. Shalom

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, strengthen us to be stewards of the Gospel by making us reliable agents or mediums for sharing the Gospel with others. Amen
