GOD WILL GIVE YOU REST (MICAH 2:12-13)
REFLECTION
“God will give your rest” is the theme for our reflection. Rest is the period of relaxation and recovery of strength. We shall reflect on the fact that God will give rest to those who put their trust in Him even in times of distress.
Dear friend, those who trust in the Lord and are in distress must be rest assured that God will give them rest like how a shepherd cares for His sheep. Prophet Micah assured the Israelites that although the Lord will punish Israel for their disobedience, He will gather the faithful remnants and care for them like how a shepherd cares for his flock. “I will surely gather all of you, Jacob; I will surely bring together the remnant of Israel. I will bring them together like sheep in a pen, like a flock in its pasture; the place will throng with people.” (Micah 2:12). This reminds us of David’s experience with the Lord as a sheep who experienced rest and peace under a caring shepherd when he said “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” (Psalms 23:1-3). Beloved in the Lord, we are being called upon through this reflection to trust the Lord at all times, especially in challenging moment or in times of despair. The Lord is faithful to those who put their trust in Him and He will give them rest. It is for this reason we assured in Isaiah 40:31 that “…those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (Isaiah 40:31) Jesus further assured us, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30). You may be experiencing anxiety and depression in your marriage, workplace or business and it may seem you are alone on the battlefield, you are not alone, let us be embolden by David’s testimony when he said “Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.”Psalms 23:4-6
In summary, we have discovered that God will give rest to those who put their trust in Him even in times of distress.
PRAYER
