HAVE FAITH (LUKE 8:19-39)
REFLECTION
“Have faith” is the theme for our reflection. “Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1).
The key lesson of our reflection is that life is like a boat on a lake, there are times when the lake will be still and we shall sail peacefully, but there are other times when windstorms will cause great turbulence and instability on the lake. It is important to understand that our faith is tested during challenging times or periods of turbulence. Our faith is tested when we experience shipwrecks in our lives. Jesus assures us that in such times of panic, difficulty, anxiety and confusion, we should have faith in Him. When the windstorm hit the boat that carried Jesus and His disciples, the disciples shouted, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and the raging waves, and they ceased, and there was a calm. He said to them, “Where is your faith?” And they were afraid, and they marvelled, saying to one another, “Who then is this, that he commands even winds and water, and they obey him?” (Luke 8:25-25)
I do not know the challenging windstorm that may be hitting you so hard but what I am sure of is that the Lord of the windstorm is in your boat and shall calm it. We are greatly encouraged to have faith amidst the uncertainties and anxiety we experience in life and “Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” (Hebrews 10:23)
In summary, we have discovered that life is like a boat on a lake. Sometimes, the lake is still, and other times, we experience turbulence and challenges because of the storms on the lake. Irrespective of the situation we encounter in life, Jesus is with us in the boat, and He is the master of the storms that threaten our lives. Let us put our faith in the Lord of the storms. Shalom.
