WITNESSES (LUKE 24:44-49)

A Promised Gift

REFLECTION

Witnesses is the theme for today’s reflection. Originally, witnesses are disciples and followers of Jesus who experienced the resurrection power of Jesus and have come to a firm and undeniable conclusion that Jesus is the Saviour and conqueror of sin, Satan and death. The meaning of witnesses also mean spreading the Gospel or Good News of our salvation in Christ and inviting all and sundry to repent, be baptised and have faith Jesus so that God will grant them the gift of eternal life.

A Christian cannot be a witness unless he or she has had a personal transformational encounter and relationship with our Lord and Master Jesus. It is for this reason Jesus said ““Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things. And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” (Luke 24:46-49). In other words, we have become witnesses because, we first encountered Jesus personally, He transformed us through forgiveness, baptism and faith and then found us worthy to be empowered by the Holy Spirit to spread His unconditional love through the Evangelism and other missionary activities to all who are willing to become the heirs of the Kingdom of God. Shalom

PRAYER

Thank you Jesus for making us witnesses and beneficiaries of your gift of eternal life. May the Holy Spirit empower us to continue to be instruments of transformation in our generation through the preaching of the Gospel to sinful humanity so that eventually the world may be ready for your second coming. Amen
