REFLECTION
“Jesus Christ, Our Saviour” is the theme for our reflection. Jesus Christ, Our Saviour means Jesus has redeemed or delivered us from destruction. Beloved in the Lord we shall reflect on the following points
1. Jesus Christ, Our Saviour has saved us from the world’s blindness.
2. Jesus Christ, our Saviour reigns with God therefore we are confident in our salvation.
3. Jesus Christ, our Saviour knows our needs and will meet us at the point of our needs.
Firstly, Jesus Christ, our Saviour has saved us from blindness and brought us into the light of His salvation. Saul who also Paul was blinded by religious fanatism and intolerance toward the Christians. Indeed, he was on His way to arrest and prosecute Christians at Damascus when he countered Jesus our Saviour. “As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” 5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” (Acts 9:3-6) Dear friend, when we encounter the Lord, we experience transformation, we become blind to the world and our eyes are spiritually opened. For this reason, Paul testified to the Galatians concerning His conversion and transformation, “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Galatians 2:20) Like Paul, some of us are zealous about unproductive endeavours. We are passionate about ungodly things that will lead us to destruction. Jesus is calling you by your name and inviting you to embrace Him as your Lord and Saviour. Paul encountered the Lord and his life was transformed. He became a useful instrument in the hands of God that brought salvation to many in the Gentile world. Dear friend, let us turn away from our sinful ways and come into the light of the Savour. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9)
Secondly, Jesus Christ, our Saviour reigns with God therefore we are confident in our salvation. This fact was revealed to John when he wrote “Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honour and glory and power, forever and ever!” 14 The four living creatures said, “Amen,” and the elders fell down and worshipped.” (Revelation 5:13-14) Beloved in the Lord, this is the proof that our faith and salvation are not a myth. We must dedicate our lives to Jesus Christ, our Saviour, serving and praising Him every day for saving us and giving us hope for eternal life. We are confident of His second coming because He reigns in Heaven. We are further assured when the Angel said in Acts 1:11, “Men of Galilee,” they said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.” Beloved in the Lord, let us live our lives each as servants we await the return of our Lord and Saviour. This calls for a life of prayer, Bible Study and total obedience to the Word of God even as we endeavour to reflect the perfect image of Christ.
Thirdly, Jesus Christ, our Saviour knows our needs and will meet us at the point of our needs. Jesus delivered the Christians in Damascus from the hands of Saul. We are told that “Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest 2 and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. 3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground” (Acts 9:1-4). Dear friend, the Lord has our safety or security at heart. He takes care of us even as we dedicate our lives to serve and please Him. Again, he provides our daily bread and nourishes us, when the disciples had fished without catching any fish, Jesus appeared and said “He called out to them, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” “No,” they answered. 6 He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. 7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” (John 21:5-7) Beloved in the Lord, the miracle-working Jesus who understands and caters for needs still active in our lives. We must not be troubled about our challenges but have faith in Jesus Christ, our Saviour who is always with us. He has assured us that “surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20) Because Jesus Christ, our Saviour is always with us, He has further assured us that “do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:31-33) Friends, After Jesus had fed the disciples, He said to Peter “Feed my sheep.” (John 21:17). The Sheep are both those who have been saved and those yet to be saved. We are to go out into the world and preach the Good News so that the sheep will be fed. Many are lost and dead spiritually therefore we have an obligation according to Matthew 28:18-20 to go out into the world to preach about Jesus Christ, our Saviour so that we can save as many as are willing to believe and be saved. Let’s join the Psalmist when he said “I will declare your name to my people; in the assembly, I will praise you. (Psalms 22:22)
In summary, we have discovered that Jesus Christ, Our Saviour has saved us from the blindness of the world, Again, Jesus Christ, our Saviour reigns with God therefore we have confidence in our salvation or eternal life. Last but not least, Jesus Christ, our Saviour knows our needs and will meet us at the point of our needs. We must continue to preach about Jesus Christ, our Saviour for the salvation of many. May the Holy Spirit strengthen us to remain faithful to Jesus Christ, Our Saviour until His second coming. Amen.
