REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is “Wholly faithful promise-keeping” Wholly faithful promise-keeping means that God’s dies does not derogate from His promise. He is a covenant keeping God. In other words, He says what he does and does what He says.

Beloved in the Lord, the Lord promised to deliver Jericho into the hands of the Israelites, and He wholly kept His promise faithfully. “When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city.” (Joshua 6:20) Indeed, we serve a wholly faithful promise-keeping God. He is dependable and worth our trust and total obedience. We see the exact attribute in Jesus when He promised to deliver us from sin and to offer us salvation through His sacrificial death. “Jesus took the Twelve aside and told them, “We are going up to Jerusalem, and everything that is written by the prophets about the Son of Man will be fulfilled. 32 He will be delivered over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him and spit on him; 33 they will flog him and kill him. On the third day, he will rise again.” (Luke 18:31-33) This in fulfilment of the promise in John 3:14-17, where it is written that “Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, 15 that everyone who believes may have eternal life in him.” 16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Beloved in the Lord, all the Lord require from us is obedience. The walls of Jericho were destroyed because Joshua and the Israelites obeyed the wholly faithful promise-keeping God. “Then Moses went up to God, and the LORD called to him from the mountain and said, “This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: 4 ‘You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. 5 Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, 6 you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.’ (Exodus 19:3-6) This same instruction of obedience goes to all who have been saved and grafted into Christ. We are not the New Israel. The New Israel is completely different from the Israel in the Old Testament. The New Israel refers to anyone saved by Jesus Christ. Jesus also admonished us that “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:21)

In summary, we have discovered that we are in a covenant relationship with God and He has been a wholly faithful promise-keeping God in our lives. We greatlly admonished to as part if covenant mandate to be obedient to God.

PRAYER

Covenant and promise-keeping God, we are grateful to You for saving and winning battles for us. May the Holy Spirit empower us to remain obedient always.
