CALLED BY NAME…I AM WITH YOU (ISAIAH 43:1-7)
REFLECTION
“Called by name…I am with you” is the theme for our reflection. “Called by name…I am with you” are words of assurance of God’s glory or presence in our lives because of His covenant relationship with us. Israel received an assurance of God’s glory and protection while in captivity. The Lord assured Israel through the prophet Isaiah saying, “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you. For I am the LORD your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.” (Isaiah 43:1-3)
My dear friend in the Lord, the Lord does not forsake us or look on while we suffer on account of our sins. He makes a way where there is no way to demonstrate His faithfulness to us through our repentance and faith in Him. Although, the Israelites had gone into captivity and exile on account of their disobedience, God assured them of His presence, salvation, protection and restoration. “This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Return to me,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the LORD Almighty. (Zechariah 1:3). Jesus further assured us, “Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent. 20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” (Revelation 3:19-20) To experience the glory of God, we must follow the way of the Lord and remain faithful to Him. Let us endeavour to do the will of God and please Him through faith and obedience so that we shall enjoy the fulfilment of God’s glory and promises through our Lord Jesus Christ, for Jesus has greatly assured us that “surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20). We owe our children and the generations to come a nurturing or upbringing centered on God and commitment to His will even as we experience His presence or glory in our lives. Shalom.
PRAYER
Merciful God, please forgive us our trespasses, grant us long life, good health and the enablement to listen to and obey Your Word. May Your glory and blessings never depart from us. Amen.
