REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “I give you my word” To give someone one’s word means to make a promise to do something or fulfill an obligation. God uses His blessings of nature (rain and snow) and its impact on food production to describe the nature of His promises to the Israelites who were in exile if the would repent.
Dear friend when God gives us His Word, He expect us to turn to Him in total repentance. It was for this reason the Israelites were told “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.” (Isaiah 55:6-7) In others for God’s promises to be fulfilled in our lives, we must ready to turn a new live and have nothing to do with sin. We must devote ourselves to serve God and remain faithful to Him by obeying His Word.
Again, it is important to note that God spoke through Isaiah to the Israelites when they were in captivity and in a state of despair. When we find ourself in a helpless and hopeless situations, the promise of redemption and restoration from a helper gives us a great sigh of relief. It should be noted that sometimes our fellow human beings may make promises to help us in times of need and trouble but will fail us or circumstances beyond their control makes it impossible for them to fulfill their promise. The good news is that, we have a dependable God who gives us His Word and fulfills it according to His perfect timing and will. He as assured us that ““For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, 11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:8-11. It is for us to have faith in the Lord and His promises, for “…faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” (Hebrews 11:1-3). My dear friend, we must trust in His promises because Jesus assured us that “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away.” (Matthew 24:35). May His will be done in our lives. Shalom.
PRAYER
“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. “The LORD is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him. Amen (Lamentations 3:22-24)
