REFLECTION

Walking with humanity, God’s abundant goodness” is the theme for our reflection. The theme means that we experience God’s overwhelming blessings when we have a right relationship with Him. In other words, God is good to those with whom He has a covenant relationship. The goodness of God means that His intentions and actions towards us are inherently, or by His divine nature, Holy, positive, just, virtuous and good. We shall examine the fact that humanity is the ultimate beneficiary of God’s abundant goodness; therefore, we are required to trust and obey Him.

Beloved in the Lord, humanity is the ultimate beneficiary of God’s abundant goodness. This fact is proven when Moses laid God’s instructions before the Israelites in the book of Leviticus. God said, “I will look on you with favour and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you. 10 You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new. 11 I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you. 12 I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people. (Leviticus 26:9-12) In other words, when we experience the glory or presence of God, we become the beneficiaries of His abundant goodness. It is important to note that God is good to all humanity, whether good or bad, obedient or disobedient. Jesus made this point clear when He said, “He (God) causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.” (Matthew 5:45) However, those who trust and obey the Lord shall experience His abundant goodness. It is for this reason that the Israelites were told in Leviticus 26:3-4 that ‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, 4 I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit. (Leviticus 26:3-4) Dear friend, let us not strive to acquire good things through our feeble effort or by relying on powerless gods, but always walk and lean on His abundant goodness in our lives. David testified to the abundant goodness of God when he wrote, “The LORD is my shepherd, I lack nothing. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, 3 he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever. (Psalms 23). Dear child of God, God is ever ready to walk with us; however, are you also ready to walk faithfully with Him by trusting and abiding by His Word and will? Jesus admonished us that, “If you love me, keep my commands. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth…Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.” (John 14:15-17,21,23) Our love for God is seen in our trust and obedience to His commandments, and in return, we experience His love through His abundant goodness to those who trust and obey Him.

In summary, we have learnt that humanity is the ultimate beneficiary of God’s abundant goodness; therefore, we are required to trust and obey Him. Shalom.
