REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “A lost sheep and coin” A sheep is a farm animal with thick wool that eats grass and is kept for its wool, skin, and meat. A coin is a flat disc or piece of metal with an official stamp, used as money. Jesus used the parable of the lost sheep and coin to teach about God’s love for repentant sinners.
Beloved in the Lord, just as we value our lost sheep and coin, God also values a lost soul. It is for this reason Jesus said “I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent…in the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” (Luke 15:7,10). In other words, Jesus’ mission on earth is to search and find those lost and perishing who are willing to be saved. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:16-17). We are to search for those who are like lost sheep and coins by heeding Jesus’ Great Commission when He said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20).
Today, if you feel lost or addicted to sin, God desires to find you with joy and welcome you home. “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:8-9). Let’s go out to search for others who are lost and perishing because we have been found by grace.
PRAYER
May the Holy Spirit empower us to search and bring home the lost and perishing through the preaching of the Gospel to all and sundry. Amen.
