REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “The God who rescues” To rescue means to save someone from a dangerous or difficult situation. We shall reflect on the fact that we serve a God who watches over us and rescues us from our enemies.
Beloved in the Lord, David’s life was an example and testimony of God’s faithfulness and protection. Some of David’s Psalms acknowledge God as sovereign and omnipotent—the God who is not absent but ever present in the lives of His people. David testified that “1 I love you, LORD, my strength.
2 The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. 3 I called to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I have been saved from my enemies. (Psalms 18:1-3) God not only rescued David from His enemies, but He also anointed and favoured him; therefore, David testified, “You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. 6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.” (Psalms 23:5-6) My dear friend, is your life being threatened by your adversaries? You are being maligned and mocked by people who seek your downfall? Enemies do not rest or hardly abandon the evil schemes unless they achieve their purpose of frustrating one’s success or prospect of becoming successful. Your enemies desire to see you fail and be discouraged. However, It is God’s will for His children to prosper, therefore, He assured the Israelites, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11) We see God fulfil His promise through Jesus Christ when Peter testified, “how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him. 39 “We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. (Acts 10:38-39) If we also call on the name of Jesus, God will heal and rescue us from both our spiritual and physical enemies. The writer of Hebrews assures us that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ” (Hebrews 13:8). Because God is our only rescuer, we are emboldened in John 3:16-17, that “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
In summary, we have been greatly reminded that we serve a God who rescues. Let’s put our trust in Him in times of trouble. Shalom.
PRAYER
May the Lord continue to shield and rescue us from the orchestrations and evil plans of our enemies. Amen.
