REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is “Balanced body.” A balanced body is one in which each part of the body works with one another to create and maintain a stable person. Similarly, the church is the body of Christ, and for the body of Christ to be balanced and efficient, all the spiritual gifts must work together in unity to create and maintain a stable and balanced church.

Dear friend in Christ, 1 Corinthians 12 teaches that the Holy Spirit gives diverse spiritual gifts to believers for the common good of the church, which is the body of Christ. Just as a body has many essential parts, the church needs a variety of gifts, and all members are necessary for the body to function properly. Believers must recognize and value each person’s role, understanding that every gift originates from the one Spirit and serves the unified purpose of the body. Paul underscored the importance of a balanced body of Christ through the unity of the diverse spiritual gifts when he wrote “… in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. 19 If they were all one part, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, but one body… so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.” (1 Corinthians 12:18-20,25-26). It is a rare privilege to be saved and graciously given the gift of the Holy Spirit. We are not to use our gifts to detriment of the Church but to edify and strengthen the church. Some Churches experience division and unhealthy competition among leaders and congregants because some perceive their spiritual gifts or abilities to be more important than others, hence the incessant quest for attention or recognition in the church. Some people also undermine others in church because they think they possess a spiritual gift that is superior and more relevant than that of others. We are greatly being admonished to build and maintain a balanced body of Christ founded on love, fellowship, service, and mutual respect.

In summary, We have reflected on the fact that just as we have different parts of the human body but they work together to achieve a balanced body, we also have different gifts of the Holy Spirt in the body of Christ therefore we need the unity of divserse spiritual gifts to maintain a balanced body of Christ. Shalom.

PRAYER
May the Holy Spirit empower us to maintain a balanced body of Christ through the unity of our diverse spiritual gifts. Amen.
