What If Faith Isn’t About What You See, But Who You Trust?
Introduction
Faith. It’s a word we hear so often in church, in songs, and in prayers. “Have faith in the Lord,” they say. It sounds comforting when life is peaceful, but when everything starts falling apart, when prayers seem unanswered, when hope feels distant, that same phrase suddenly feels like a mountain too heavy to climb.
But what if faith isn’t about seeing what God is doing? What if it’s about trusting Who He is, even when you can’t see the way ahead? Let’s pause and think about this truth: faith is not just believing that God can calm the storm; it’s trusting Him even if He doesn’t, because you know He’s still in control.
Faith Beyond the Storm
Peter understood this in one unforgettable moment. The night was dark, the sea was wild, and fear gripped every heart in the boat. Yet when Jesus called, “Come,” Peter stepped out, not because the water was calm, but because Jesus was there.
“Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came towards Jesus.” — Matthew 14:29
That’s the heart of faith. Not the absence of fear, but the decision to trust even when everything screams, “You’re sinking!” Faith doesn’t deny reality. It doesn’t close its eyes and pretend the storm isn’t real. Faith looks at the storm and still says, “My God is greater.” It doesn’t rest in what it sees; it rests in Who it knows.
Maybe you’ve prayed and the situation hasn’t changed yet. Maybe you’ve tried fixing things yourself, only to end up weary and confused. But here’s a comforting truth: sometimes God doesn’t calm the storm around you because He’s busy calming the storm inside you. Before He changes your situation, He might be transforming your heart. Before He opens a door, He might be strengthening your walk.
