REFLECTION

Transforming grace: From disobedience to salvation is the theme for our reflection. Grace is  God’s unmerited favour, meaning His unearned and freely given love, kindness, and mercy toward humanity. This favour is not dependent on human actions but is a gift from God, most notably through the salvation and forgiveness of sins made possible by Jesus Christ. The grace of God transforms those who are willing and repentant sinners from the life of disobedience or sinfulness to children of God.

Beloved in the Lord, having experienced the transformational grace, we are to live as children of God, preach Christ and impact those who are living in sin to come to Jesus. Paul is reminding us that we who are now saved were formerly ignorant, lost and sinned against God, but now, by the grace of God, we are useful for good works in Christ. In other words, we used to sin and were not mindful of our salvation. Paul puts it in this way, “For we ourselves were once foolish, disobedient, led astray, slaves to various passions and pleasures, passing our days in malice and envy, hated by others and hating one another. But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:3-7)

Beloved in the Lord, our lost brothers and sisters in the world are still living according to the desires of the flesh. They need to be led to Jesus. When we look back at who we were in the past, we must always be thankful to God that “…Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am the worst. (1 Timothy 1:15). Just like Titus was sent to Crete to preach the Good News for those who were still living in sin to repent and be saved, in the same manner, we must also go into the deep and spread the Gospel actively and passively to save the lost through the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. Look around you, there is someone who is a slave to alcohol addiction and all manner of self-destructive behaviours. God has called us to reach out to people who are still beyond the walls of salvation to experience the transformational grace through the power of the Holy Spirit and the Gospel.

In summary, without the transformational grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we shall remain ignorant, foolish and stand condemned. We are grateful to Jesus for transforming us into the children of God through His love and grace.

PRAYER

ALMIGHTY GOD, WE ARE GRATEFUL TO YOU FOR MAKING OUR LIVES USEFUL THROUGH THE TRANSFORMING GRACE OF JESUS CHRIST. ENABLE US TO LEAD THE LOST TO YOU. AMEN.
