REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is ” Perseverance” Perseverance is the quality of continuing to do something despite difficulties, setbacks, or discouragement. It involves a determined effort to achieve a goal, even when faced with hardship, and is a crucial trait for reaching long-term success and building resilience. We shall reflect on the fact that the journey of salvation or victory is not without suffering; it is for this reason that we need to persevere through faith and the enablement of the Holy Spirit.
Beloved in the Lord, living for Christ and remaining on the path of salvation comes with many tribulations and suffering, which requires perseverance. It is for this reason Paul encouraged the Roman Christians, “we boast in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;” (Romans 5:3) While many may despair or give up during the time of suffering, our faith in Christ must give us the encouragement and assurance to persevere to the end. Paul goes on to explain other important qualities that are produced as a result of persevering in suffering. He wrote, “perseverance (produces) character; and character, hope. 5 And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.” (Romans 5:4-5) In other words, we are not alone during our suffering, perseverance, resolute character, and hope. We experience God’s love in our journey through the enablement and empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Jesus has already assure us and fulfilled His promise when He said, “… I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth…the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.” (John 14:16, 26) Beloved in the Lord, it means to persevere in suffering; we need faith and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit to become victorious. You may be going through hard times or suffering because you have purposed in your heart to do God’s will and to please Him. We are greatly emboldened to hold onto our faith in Jesus Christ and completely rely on the strength and guidance of the Holy Spirit. We are encouraged to Consider it pure joy… whenever we face trials of many kinds, 3 because we know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” (James 1:2-3) Jesus assured us that “the one who (persevere) stands firm to the end will be saved” Matthew 24:13)
In summary, we have discovered that the journey of salvation or victory is not without suffering; it is for this reason that we need to persevere through faith and the enablement of the Holy Spirit.
