A SHEPHERD KNOWS THEIR SHEEP (JOHN 10:14-16)
REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “A shepherd knows their sheep” A shepherd tends and rears sheep. We shall reflect on the fact that Christ is our good shepherd who knows and loves both the sheep in and outside the sheepfold.
Christ, our good Shepherd has demonstrated his love for us by not only knowing and protecting those who are within the walls of salvation but he also knows and cares for the lost sheep outside the sheepfold. No wonder Christ said “I am the good shepherd. I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for the sheep. And I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring them also, and they will listen to my voice. So there will be one flock, one shepherd.” (John 10:14-16). Christ is not only interested in those who are saved but he is also interested in those who are under the bondage of sin and are lost. Jesus’ love for the lost sheep or sinners is summarised in Romans 5:6-8, “For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Dear friend, no matter who you are and regardless of the magnitude of your sins, Jesus still loves you therefore repent and receive salvation and eternal life from Christ, our good shepherd. Let us remember that John 3:16-17 assure that when we repent and believe in Christ our Saviour we shall be saved. This the message of hope we who in the sheepfold must continue to share with the sheep outside the sheepfold according to Matthew 28:18-20
In summary, we have been greatly reminded that Christ is our good shepherd, who knows and loves both the sheep in and outside the sheepfold. This is the Good News we ought to share with everyone.
PRAYER
Jesus, our Good Shepherd, we thank you for saving us. May the Holy Spirit strengthen us to reach out to the sheep outside the sheepfold through the preaching of the Good News. Amen.
