We reflect on the profound theme of “Offering Treasures”, a call to give our absolute best to the King of Kings. To “offer” is more than a mere handover; it is a conscious, sacrificial act of worship and presentation. Our “treasures” represent our most valuable assets—not just material wealth, but our time, talents, and the very throne of our hearts. The relevance of this theme today cannot be overstated; in a world that often gives God our “leftovers,” we are reminded that true worship requires intentionality. The central lesson of this reflection is that a genuine encounter with Christ compels us to offer Him our most precious possessions as a sign of total submission.

In Matthew 2:7–12, we witness the Magi’s journey, which culminated not in a casual greeting but in a moment where they “opened their treasures” (Matthew 2:11). These wise men did not come empty-handed. Their gifts were deeply symbolic: gold recognised His royalty, frankincense honoured His divinity, and myrrh foreshadowed His sacrificial death. Just as the Apostle Paul urges us in Romans 12:1 to offer our bodies as a “living sacrifice”, the Magi demonstrated that seeking Christ requires a physical and spiritual manifestation of honour. They did not wait for a convenient time; they travelled great distances to place their best at His feet, showing us that the value of the gift reflects the value we place on the Recipient.

Practically, offering treasures today might look like a busy professional choosing to dedicate their first hour of the day to intercession and scripture, rather than scrolling through emails. It is the “treasure” of time and mental energy. Or perhaps it is a person using their unique artistic skill to serve their community without seeking personal acclaim. By doing so, we echo the Magi’s devotion. We learn that we cannot truly encounter the light of Christ and remain hoarders of our own grace. The summary of our lesson is clear: seeking Jesus involves preparation, finding Him brings great joy, and worshipping Him requires the opening of our most guarded storehouses.

We are challenged to look at what we hold most dear—be it our reputation, our finances, or our future plans—and ask if we have truly laid them before the Lord. When we offer our treasures, we are not losing them; we are placing them in the hands of the One who gave them to us in the first place. Let us move into this day with the resolve to give God not what is convenient, but what is costly, for He is worthy of the very best we have to give.

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the greatest gift of all, Your Son Jesus Christ. Today, I open the treasures of my heart to You. Take my time, my talents, and my resources, and use them for Your glory. Help me to live a life of sacrificial worship, always seeking to give You my best. Lead me by Your Spirit to walk in obedience and joy. Amen.
