REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “The Church Built On A Living Confession”

Key Word Definitions

  • The Church: The body of believers called together across the world to belong to Jesus Christ, rather than a physical building.
  • Built: Firmly founded, established, and sustained upon an unshakeable foundation.
  • Living: Active, genuine, and clearly seen through daily obedience rather than dead routine.
  • Confession: A bold, heartfelt declaration of truth acknowledging who Jesus Christ truly is.
We shall reflect on the theme by considering two important facts:
    1. The church is built on a living confession when believers have a personal relationship and revelation of Jesus Christ.
    2. The church is built on a living confession through faith and obedience

1. A Living Confession Begins with Personal Revelation and Relationship with Jesus Christ

The Church does not stand on human opinion, tradition, or secondhand knowledge. It is established when individuals encounter Jesus Christ personally and acknowledge His true identity.

When Jesus asked His disciples, “Who do you say I am?”, Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Matthew 16:15–16). Jesus commended Peter because this conviction came directly from God: “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it” (Matthew 16:17–18).

We cannot profess a living confession if we do not know Christ for ourselves. As Jesus declared, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). Knowing Jesus as Saviour requires an authentic, personal relationship with Him that shapes who we are from the inside out.

2. A Living Confession Is Demonstrated Through Obedience and Faith

A confession of faith is only truly “living” when it is backed by our daily conduct. Words alone are not enough; our faith must be visible in how we live, worship, and stand for righteousness.

The Apostle Paul instructs us: “In view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:1–2).

We see this active faith in the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah. When ordered by the king of Egypt to kill newborn Hebrew boys, “the midwives feared God and did not do as the king of Egypt commanded them, but let the male children live” (Exodus 1:17). Their reverent fear of God outweighed their fear of human authority. In the same spirit, the apostles declared, “We must obey God rather than men” (Acts 5:29).

Because the midwives honoured God through their actions, “God dealt well with the midwives… and because the midwives feared God, he gave them families” (Exodus 1:20–21). God honours and sustains those whose confession of faith produces courage, integrity, and obedience under trial.

Conclusion

The Church remains resilient because it is built upon the unchanging reality of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. A living confession is not merely recited on Sundays; it is proven daily through a transformed mind, reverence for God, and an unwavering commitment to follow Christ in all circumstances.

Call to Action

  • Examine Your Walk: Reflect honestly on whether your relationship with Jesus is personal or merely based on routine and the opinions of others.
  • Live as a Sacrifice: Dedicate your daily choices, gifts, and resources to God’s service, refusing to conform to ungodly worldly standards.
  • Choose Obedience: Stand firmly for truth and righteousness in your home, workplace, and community, honouring God above human pressure.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for revealing Your Son, Jesus Christ, to us as our Lord and Saviour. Strengthen our faith so that our confession is never empty words, but a living, active reality. Grant us the courage to obey You in every circumstance, to offer our lives daily as living sacrifices, and to honour You with holy reverence. May Your Church stand firm on the rock of Christ and shine as a light in this world. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
