ROOTED IN HIS GLORY (PSALM 1:1-3)

REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is “Rooted in His glory” To be rooted means means having developed from something. The glory of God means the presence or manifestation of the presence, magnificence or awesomeness of God. To be rooted His glory means to have ones’ spiritual foundation founded in God’s presence. In other words our spiritual grow and essence is connected to the God’s presence in our lives. We shall reflect on the fact that to remain rooted in the glory of God we must delight in His Word and meditate on it daily.

Beloved in the Lord, there is not better to be rooted in the glory of God than to consistently delight in having an encounter with Scripture and meditating on it daily. It is for this reason the Psalmist wrote “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, 2 but whose delight is in the law of the LORD,
and who meditates on his law day and night. (Psalms 1:1-2
) Joshua also confirmed the benefit of being rooted in the glory of God through Scripture when he said to the Israelites, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.” (Joshua 1:8) Friend’ we can not call ourselves believers yet we do not delight in the Word of God and meditate on it daily. Many Christians our our time have become Sunday worshippers. Even on Sunday, they only go to church to listen to the Scripture and the sermon but throughout the week they do not read the Scripture hence are completely deaf to the voice of God. There many Christians in our time who spend more time on social media and entertainment than remaining rooted in the glory of God through prayer and Bible studies. There many spiritually poor Christian in the 21st century because our lives are governed by materialism and obsession with work and wealth. In Act 8:26-40 we read about the religious Ethiopian Eunuch. We understand He was interested in Scripture and was reading the Book of Isaiah. Due to his passion and desire for Scripture, the Holy Spirit led Philip to him. Consequently, the Ethiopian Eunuch experienced the glory of the Lord through his understanding of Scripture. There more we yearn for the Word of God, the more we experience the glory of God in our lives. It is rather unfortunate on the part of many Christians of our time that when it comes to Bible studies, we have all manner of excuses.

Beloved in the Lord, the Psalmist made known the benefit of rooting one’s self in God’s presence or glory through the spiritual exercise of mediating on His Word or Law regularly. The benefit is that “That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.” (Psalms 1:3) We are again emboldened by Jesus with regards to prioritizing spiritual things such as meditating on the Word of God and prayer when He said “…seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matthew 6:33) My dear friend in Christ, if you have not rooted yourself in God’s glory then I invite you to start that journey with through this devotional blog. In summary, we have discovered that to remain rooted in the glory of the Lord we must delight in His Word and meditate on it daily. Shalom.
