PREPARING A PLACE (JOHN 14:1-3)

The theme for our reflection is “Preparing a place” “Preparing a place” can mean making something ready for use or, in a Christian context, Christ promising to create a heavenly dwelling for believers. We shall reflect on the fact that we must be prepared for the place Jesus is preparing for us.

Beloved in the Lord, we have been given the assurance that our lives transcend the realms of this world. It is for this reason that Jesus revealed to His disciples, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.” (John 14:1-3). Beloved in the Lord, let us not live as if life begins and ends only in this world. We must have the consciousness of God and eternity in everything we do. The place Jesus is preparing for us is not an automatic entry for all followers of Jesus, but is for those who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour. John 3:16 reminds us that “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16). Beloved in the Lord, our belief or faith should be demonstrated through our obedience to God if we indeed yearn to enter the Kingdom of God. Jesus admonished us that “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 7:2) In other words, for us to be ready for the place Jesus is preparing for us in the Kingdom of God, we continue to believe in Him and totally rely on the empowerment of the Holy Spirit to do the will of God always. Faith and obedience are the true hallmarks of genuine Christians or disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you also believe in Jesus and are you obedient to the will of God? May we be ushered into the the Kingdom of God after Jesus is done preparing it for us.

In summary, we have discovered that we must be prepared for the place Jesus is preparing for us through faith and obedience to the will of God even as we await His second coming.

PRAYER

Thank you, Jesus, for counting us worthy of Your Salvation. May the Holy Spirit empower us to remain prepared for the Second coming of Jesus and our departure into the place He prepared for us.
