SUNDAY REFLECTION

The world is full of many voices. Some voices bring us worry, others bring us temporary joy, but there is only one voice that has the power to bring life out of death. Our reflection today, “The Voice That Gives Life”, focuses on the amazing power of God’s Word to change any situation. Whether we are facing spiritual emptiness, emotional pain, or physical challenges, the voice of God is the only force that can restore us and give us a new beginning. Through the scriptures, we see that when God speaks, things that were once dead begin to breathe again.

First, we must understand that we find true life when we listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit rather than the desires of our own bodies. Saint Paul teaches us in the book of Romans that there is a big difference between living by the flesh and living by the Spirit. He says, “Those who live according to the flesh have their minds set on what the flesh desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:5-6).

When we only listen to what our selfish desires want, we become like “dry bones”—spiritually empty and without hope. However, when we listen to the voice of the Spirit, we find peace. Paul reminds us that “if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you” (Romans 8:11). This means the same voice that raised Jesus is available to speak life into our hearts today. We are encouraged to turn away from the “voice” of sin and listen to the voice of God’s Spirit.

Secondly, the voice of God can restore hope even in situations that seem completely lost. In the vision of the Prophet Ezekiel, the people of Israel felt like they were finished. They were in exile and felt like dry bones in a valley. But God told Ezekiel to speak to the bones. “Then he said to me, ‘Prophesy to these bones and say to them, “Dry bones, hear the word of the Lord! This is what the Sovereign Lord says to these bones: I will make breath enter you, and you will come to life” (Ezekiel 37:4-5).

As Ezekiel spoke God’s Word, the bones came together and were covered with flesh. Finally, God said, “I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the Lord have spoken, and I have done it, declares the Lord” (Ezekiel 37:14). You may feel like your finances, your marriage, or your health are like those dry bones—dry and hopeless. But do not give up. The same voice that spoke to the valley of bones is speaking to you today. God’s Word is not just talk; it is a creative force that settles us and brings us back to where we belong.

Finally, we see the ultimate power of this voice in the story of Lazarus. Lazarus had been dead for four days, and his body had already begun to smell. His sister, Martha, was heartbroken. Yet, Jesus showed that his voice is stronger than the grave. After thanking His Father, “Jesus called in a loud voice, ‘Lazarus, come out!’ The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face” (John 11:43-44).

Before this miracle, Jesus told Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25). This shows us that the voice of Jesus is the voice of life itself. It does not matter how long your problem has lasted or how “bad it smells” to the world. If you believe, you will hear the voice of the Lord calling you out of your “grave” of despair. Jesus asked Martha, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” (John 11:40). He is asking us the same question today.

In summary, the theme “The Voice That Gives Life” reminds us that we have a choice. We can listen to the voice of the flesh, which leads to death, or we can listen to the voice of God, which brings restoration and peace. Whether it is through the Spirit living in us, the prophetic Word spoken over our lives, or the direct command of Jesus, God is always calling us toward life. Let us use this season to silence the noise of the world and listen to the voice of the Lord. He is ready to open your graves, put His Spirit in you, and make you live again.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You because Your voice has the power to bring life to every dead situation. We admit that sometimes we have followed the desires of our flesh and ignored the leading of Your Spirit. Please forgive us and wash us clean. We ask that You speak Your word of life into our “dry bones” today. Where there is hopelessness, bring hope. Where there is sickness, bring healing. Where there is spiritual death, bring a fresh outpouring of Your Holy Spirit.

Lord Jesus, just as You called Lazarus from the tomb, call us out of our darkness and into Your marvellous light. Help us to believe Your promise that “I am the resurrection and the life” (John 11:25). May Your Spirit live within us, guiding our thoughts and giving peace to our minds. We trust that You have plans to prosper us and give us a future full of hope. Give us the strength to walk in Your ways all the days of our lives. We make this prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen.
