REFLECTION

Bread and wine is the theme for our reflection. Bread and wine symbolise the body and blood of Jesus which is shared among a fellowship of believers. Without the sharing of bread and wine which represents the sacrifice of Christ, our Christian fellowship is incomplete.

It is important to note that fellowshipping with Christ through the breaking of bread and drinking of wine leads to a deeper relationship with Him. We come to a realisation of who Jesus is and what He means to us as our Saviour. It was for this reason, “When he was at table with them, he took the bread and blessed and broke it and gave it to them. And their eyes were opened, and they recognized him. And he vanished from their sight. (Luke 24:30-31). Dear friend, Christian fellowship through the sharing of bread and wine as the body and blood of Christ must lead us to bare witness of the Sacrifice and resurrection of power of our Lord Jesus. Dining with the Lord leads to transformation and witness. After their eyes were opened “They said to each other, “Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked to us on the road, while he opened to us the Scriptures?” And they rose that same hour and returned to Jerusalem. And they found the eleven and those who were with them gathered together, saying, “The Lord has risen indeed, and has appeared to Simon!” Then they told what had happened on the road, and how he was known to them in the breaking of the bread.” (Luke 24:32-35).

Jesus said “…Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you.” (John 6:53). In other words, to have eternal life, we must feed on the bread and wine that Jesus gives through His sacrifice and fellowship with us. Let us not miss the opportunity to recline at table with the Lord for He opens our eyes to be witnesses to His glorious riches through His Word and Sacrament.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help us to value our fellowship with the Lord through the Word and Sacrament so that we may witness to the world our joy and salvation in the Lord. Amen.
