REFLECTION
Where is God’s face? is the theme for our reflection. When you fall and find yourself lonely in a ditch and someone shows his or her face after a long period, the presence of the person brings so much hope and relief. Similarly anytime we find ourselves in trouble we anticipate someone reliable to show his or her face, children look out for the face of their parents, an example is the return of the prodigal son in Luke 15, the prodigal son looked out for the loving and forgiving face of the Father to restore him from his poverty and misery when he decided to return home. Aged, sick and weak parents look out for the loving and supportive face of their children and loved ones when they are lonely at home or at the hospital. The poor and vulnerable in society look out for the face of the rich in the society to come to their aid.
Dear friend, when you are vulnerable and helpless whose face do you seek for your liberation or redemption? The Psalmist who was a distressed Israelite realized that no human being can save Israel from the punishment of their sins, enemies and calamities therefore He called on God. He acknowledged that God might have been punishing them because of their disobedience by not listening to their prayer of restoration yet the Psalmist did not give up! He still prayed and sought the restorative face of God. “O LORD God of hosts, how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers? You have fed them with the bread of tears and given them tears to drink in full measure. You make us an object of contention for our neighbors, and our enemies laugh among themselves. Restore us, O God of hosts; let your face shine, that we may be saved! (Psalm 80:4-7)
Beloved in the Lord, regardless of how far away you are from God through your disobedience, He is still present in your life. Only if you will repent and seek for His restoration, His glorious face will shine on you and you will be saved. Again, a believer must understand that the most unreliable step to take in times of trouble is to put your trust in human beings. Seek the face of God first because He has the power to use anyone, anything and any means to come to your aid and restoration. When Joseph, Hannah, Daniel and his friends, Paul and Silas found themselves in trouble they prayed for the restorative and glorious intervention of the Lord and each one of them through faith experienced the face of the Lord. “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26) Shalom.
PRAYER
Almighty God in you we trust. Let your glorious face never depart from us and make your face shine upon us when we are about to go wayward. Let Your will be done in our lives now and always. Amen
