REFLECTION

Bringers of good news is the theme for our reflection. The good news in today’s reflection is not the Gospel but a piece of information about someone or something that is positive, encouraging, uplifting and desirable. Paul was stationed at Arthens and was unable to go to Thessalonica because of the persecution  he faced over there from the  Jews who were against his conversion to Christianity. It is for this reason Paul explained to the new Thessalonians church or believers that “Therefore when we could bear it no longer, we were willing to be left behind at Athens alone, and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s coworker in the gospel of Christ, to establish and exhort you in your faith, that no one be moved by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.” (Thessalonians 3:1-3).

Timothy brought back good news to Paul at Arthens that the new believers in Thessalonica had kept the faith. Paul commended the Thessalonian Christians for holding on to their faith in the Lord despite hostility to the Gospel from Jews and other Gentiles. “But now that Timothy has come to us from you, and has brought us the good news of your faith and love and reported that you always remember us kindly and long to see us, as we long to see you— for this reason, brothers, in all our distress and affliction we have been comforted about you through your faith.” (Thessalonians 3:6-7).

Dear friend in the Lord, good news is not always about our personal achievement and gains but it is also about helping others and receiving the news that they have been saved through the preaching of the Gospel and the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Our greatest joy and achievement as believers or a church is not the building of magnificent Chapels but to see souls being saved through preaching and spreading of the Gospel. We must make every effort to invest into Evangelism and missionaries regardless of existing challenges the church face. Although Paul was greatly challenged and could not go to Thessalonica he nevertheless made provision and sent Timothy to teach and nurture the new believers and to encourage them to hold onto their faith in the Lord. When the Church invests in Evangelists and missionaries it will always be comforted with joyful and comforting good news about the salvation of many. The Lord is pleased and blesses the Church immeasurably if the church remains focused on working towards the salvation and nurturing of souls in Lord. Shalom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, equip us to preach the Gospel in every corner of the World and nurture and disciple new believers to become fruit-bearing believers so that we will remain good stewards of the Gospel and bringers of good news.
