REFLECTION

Divine house arrest is the theme for our reflection. House arrest is the state of being kept as a prisoner in one’s own house, rather than in a prison. A divine a house arrest is a state of being kept as prisoner in one’s own house by God for His own purpose, usually this is the time for personal retreat and spiritual empowerment and direction from God.

Ezekiel saw the glory of God again and was instructed to proclaim God’s message to both the wicked and the righteous. He had encountered the Lord at different places, eventually Ezekiel said “But the Spirit entered into me and set me on my feet, and he spoke with me and said to me, “Go, shut yourself within your house. And you, O son of man, behold, cords will be placed upon you, and you shall be bound with them, so that you cannot go out among the people. And I will make your tongue cling to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be mute and unable to reprove them, for they are a rebellious house. But when I speak with you, I will open your mouth, and you shall say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord GOD.’ He who will hear, let him hear; and he who will refuse to hear, let him refuse, for they are a rebellious house.” (Ezekiel 3:24-27)

Ezekiel’s divine house arrest was to keep him away from the rebellious people for sometime while God prepares Him to go back and declare His message of repentance and restoration to them. It is sometimes overwhelming and frustrating when dealing with people who are rebellious. Constant exposure and trying to preach to a people who are unwilling to be revived by the Word of God and the Spirit of life may lead the messenger to state of despair and gradually burn out. In other words, a prophet, pastor, evangelist, teacher may ruin his or health health or become completely exhausted through overwork if he or she does not take time off. By extension, every believer must allow himself or herself occasionally to be put under divine house arrest for his or her own spiritual growth and development. Ezekiel’s time off or spending time with God in his house may be referred to as divine house arrest. It is expected that we come out of the divine house arrest rejuvenated, revived or restored to continue the ministry and mission of the Lord which is the proclamation of His salvation message to the rebellious people in the world. May we allow ourselves to be put under divine house arrest, locked from the distractions and noises of the rebellious generation we find ourselves so that we will return to save and transform lost souls through the empowerment of the Holy Spirit. Shalom.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, put us under divine house arrest if we become spiritually and physically exhausted in this rebellious world. Revive and enable us to always go back into the world to do Your will and to save souls that are perishing. Amen.
