REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is restoration. Restoration is the act or process of returning something to its previous  good condition or position. God promised the Israelites two important forms of restoration. These restorations are physical and Spiritual restorations

The physical restoration is the return of the exiles to their home or to the land of Israel where they shall be secured and prosper again in total liberation, peace and joy.. “Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Now I will restore the fortunes of Jacob and have mercy on the whole house of Israel, and I will be jealous for my holy name. They shall forget their shame and all the treachery they have practiced against me, when they dwell securely in their land with none to make them afraid, when I have brought them back from the peoples and gathered them from their enemies’ lands, and through them have vindicated my holiness in the sight of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the LORD their God, because I sent them into exile among the nations and then assembled them into their own land.” (Ezekiel 39:25-29). Physical restoration will lead to economic and political restoration since they will be able to have access to their lands and also assume sovereignty over their own nation devoid from any foreign influence or encumbrance. The Israelites will be able to take decisions that will promote the own interests and development.

The second form of restoration is Spiritual restoration. Spiritual restoration is the return of the glory of God among the people which signified His presence, love and protection. “Then he led me to the gate, the gate facing east. And behold, the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the east. And the sound of his coming was like the sound of many waters, and the earth shone with his glory…As the glory of the LORD entered the temple by the gate facing east, the Spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the LORD filled the temple.” (Ezekiel 43:1-2,4-5). Spirit restoration also produces moral restoration and holiness since the people experience His presence among them.

Dear friend in the Lord we experience the restoration of the Lord physically and spiritually if we draw closer to Him in faith and are reconciled to Him through repentance. In other words, to experience both physical and spiritual restoration, all we need to do is to avail ourselves as exiles or prodigal children who yearn to experience the liberation, love and glory of God through His salvation. We therefore need a clean heart, renewed mind, a transformed heart and a revived spirit through our relationship with Christ Jesus to become beneficiaries of God’s physical and spiritual restoration. Shalom.

PRAYER

Lord Almighty, we remain in the exile of sin and hopelessness without you. We humbly pray that You restore us physically and spiritually to the glory of your Holy name. Amen.
