REFLECTION
“Members of one another” is the theme for our reflection. “Members of one another” is the state of being connected to each other as a fellowship of believers. Our interconnectedness or being members of one another is essential for the survival of the Church of Christ and God’s mission in the world in bringing salvation to many through our Lord Jesus Christ. It is for this reason, Paul admonished the Christians at Ephesus that “…having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbour, for we are members one of another.” (Ephesians 4:25)
We must maintain trust and unity of the body of Christ (the Church) by being truthful at all times. Jesus teaches us in Matthew 5:37 that “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil..” The only way to avoid or overcome the temptation of living in falsehood is to let the Holy Spirit live in us so that we can follow the perfect example of Christ. Paul gave his life to Christ and therefore testified that “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20).
Nonconformity to the world also enables us to overcome falsehood in the Church. Jesus admonished us that “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.” (Matthe 6:25). Being devoted to something other than Christ will certainly lead to a life of falsehood or hypocrisy in the Church. It is for this purpose, Paul encourages us when he wrote that “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” (Roman 12:1-2). Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, direct our path as members of one another and help us to live and stand by the truth in ensuring that the Church continues to represent Jesus as the light of the world.
