REFLECTION

Jesus’ wounds. A wound is an injury to living tissue caused by a cut, blow, or other impact, typically one in which the skin is cut or broken. Jesus suffered multiple wounds during His trial and torture on the cross. John tells us that on the evening of Jesus’ resurrection, which was “the first day of the week, the doors being locked where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” When he had said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord.” (John 20:19-20).

Jesus’ wounds reminds us of two important facts. First, Jesus’ wounds remind us of the fact that our salvation came at a cost and was not given to us on a silver platter. We must therefore value our salvation and continually show our gratitude by dedicating our lives to God as a living sacrifice. (Romans 12:1-2) Second, the wounds of Jesus reminds us that He truly resurrected, therefore we are not alone in our struggles and anxieties, in Him we experience the glory of God and find the peace that surpasses all understanding. The Prophet Isaiah summarizes the importance of Jesus’ wounds when he said “…he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:5) Dear friend, Jesus understands your pains and frustrations and He is ever ready to carry your burdens for you. Put your trust and hope in Him and allow Him to embrace you with His wounds so that you will recieve your salvation, peace and healing. His wounds were for our benefit and for that, we are forever grateful to God. Shalom.
