REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is repentance. Repentance is the act of showing regret or remorse for a sin committed against God and our fellow human beings. Jesus teaches His audience about the temptation of self-righteousness which leads to the pointing of accusatory fingers and being judgemental of others without considering our own shortcomings. He cautions all to demonstrate genuine repentance before God “…I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”(Luke 13:5).

The good news is that like the parable of the barren fig tree in Luke 13:6-9, God continues to give us countless opportunities and time to repent and be saved. This is the meaning of grace. It is for this reason, God assured us in Ezekiel 33:11 that “Say to them, As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live…” Beloved in the Lord, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” (1 John 1:9-10). Repentance is however a choice but like the prodigal son, let us always repent and say “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”(Luke 15:21). Through genuine repentance we recieve forgiveness and salvation through our Lord Jesus, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” (John 3:16-17)

PRAYER

Dear Lord, awaken our conscience to always repent when we disobey You. Amen
