ADVENT REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “The cloud of the Lord” Moses erected the Tabernacle of the Lord for the Israelites “Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. And Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.” (Exodus 40:34-35) The cloud of the Lord represented the presence or the glory of God among His people. It was a visible and awesome manifestation of God’s power and presence in the midst of His people.
Dear friend, God chose to manifest His glory through the cloud in the tabernacle during the time of Moses, how is God manifesting His glory in our time? In our dispensation, we are the tabernacles of God and the glory of the Lord is manifested in us through the power of the Holy Spirit. ” When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.” (Acts 2:1-4) It is for this reason, Paul reminded the Corinthian Christians that “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honour God with your bodies. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). In other words, through Jesus’ atonement, we are now reconciled to God and therefore have His Spirit dwelling in and among us. Without the fellowship of believers, the physical tabernacle, sanctuary or temple of the Lord will remain a mere structure dedicated to the worship of God. We are blessed to have the Holy Spirit live in us who believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
During the Advent of the Lord Jesus Christ, the cloud of the Lord will mark the glory and salvation of God’s people. Jesus said “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. (Matthew 24:30-31). In other words, the first cloud of the Lord that filled the tabernacle at the time of Moses was the cloud of God’s glory and power but the cloud of the Lord which shall be revealed at His Advent shall be the cloud that will usher us into eternal life so that we will eternally share in His glory and power. Let us bear the fruits of the Holy Spirit and live according to the will of God even as we await the cloud of the Lord to settle among us during His Advent. Shalom
PRAYER
Almighty God, may your glory never depart from us until the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
