Live the right is the theme for our reflection. To “live the right” means following the accepted ways or principles that guide the behaviour or character of a believer in the world. By following these accepted ways or principles, the believer lives an impactful or exemplary life for others to follow. These accepted ways or principles needed to live the right way can only be found in the teachings and perfect examples of Jesus Christ. A careful study of Jesus’ teachings leads us to the conclusion that to live the right means to love others and do what is righteous before God. Righteousness must lead to justice and respect for human dignity.

A Christian or believer who lives right is likened by Jesus to the value of salt. “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot” (Matthew 5:13) Dear friend, salt is used in preservation, seasoning and purification therefore, to live right means our lives must be impactful just as salt becomes impactful or relevant when it used. We lose our impactfulness when we fail to follow the perfect example of Jesus in demonstrating unconditional love and righteousness that pleases God. If the world cannot feel the impact of our faith and actions as disciples of Christ then we are like the salt that has lost its saltiness. Similarly, Jesus makes the same analogy of living an impactful life with the importance of light. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. (Matthew 5:14-15). In other words, the world can only perceive or understand the meaning of love and righteousness if we practice them. The world will feel the impact and see our Lord Jesus Christ radiate through us as the light of the world. It is important to note that whether we are impactful as salt or light, our power and enablement to love and be righteous come from Jesus Christ, “For in him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28). When we have lived right by becoming the light of love and righteousness to those who are in the darkness of sin, two things will happen, the world “…may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:16) In other words, when we become impactful, it leads others to the transformational power of our Lord Jesus Christ and when they discover the importance of living right in Christ they will glorify the Father in heaven by offering themselves to Him as living sacrifices. It is for this reason, we must live an exemplary and impactful life as disciples of Christ at home, in our communities, at work and wherever we shall find ourselves. As disciples of Jesus, He is counting on us to preserve, season, and purify the world with our saltiness, similarly, the Lord is counting on us to be the light of the world by overcoming the darkness in it and leading the lost and the perishing to His Salvation. Shalom.
