LENT REFLECTION

The theme for our reflection is Father and Son. Father is a man in relation to a child and a son is a boy in relation to either or both of his parents. The relationship between God and Jesus is that of a Father and Son. How do we experience the role of the Father and Son in our lives.

One, God the Father demonstrated His unconditional love through Jesus, His Son so that through the Father and Son, we have eternal life. It is for this reason that Jesus prayed “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now, this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.” (John 17:1-3) Dear friend, no one can attain eternal unless he or she accepts Jesus as the only one through whom God has given authority to save the world. In other words, we are forgiven and reconciled to the Father because of the atonement or priceless sacrifice of the Son. Paul explained this fact through his passionate appeal to the Corinthians when he wrote that“All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:18-21). The lent season offers another special opportunity to be reconciled to the Father through repentance and forgiveness in the Son. May we draw closer to the Son by having a special relationship with Him to experience the unconditional love of the Father and be reconciled to Him.

Second, those who have a relationship with the Son experience the glory of the Father. In other words, we see the Father through the Son. Jesus prayed again, “I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began. (John 17:4-5) Jesus, the Son, co-exists and is co-eternal with the Father, however, no one has seen the Father before, therefore, the Father makes His glory, majesty, honour or presence manifest through the Son who came down from heaven in human form. There are countless examples of Jesus manifesting the glory of the Lord through miracles to prove the fact that when we have a relationship with Him, the Son, we shall experience the presence or glory of the Father. Beloved in the Lord, if we yearn to experience the power and glory of the Father, then we must open the door of our hearts through faith to Jesus the son of God for Him to the Saviour and Lord over our lives. May the lent season draw us closer to the Father and Son so that their glory will never depart from us. Shalom

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, draw us closer to the Son so that we may experience the unconditional love and glory of the Father. Amen.
