REFLECTION

Hallowed be your name is the theme for reflection. ‘Hallowed be Your name means to ask God to enable or strengthen us to make His name holy. Moses experienced the glory of the Lord. “When the LORD saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, “Moses! Moses!” And Moses said, “Here I am.” “Do not come any closer,” God said. “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:4-5).

Beloved in the Lord, the key lesson for our reflection is, we must revere, worship, and treat the name of God holy at every place or gathering dedicated to His name. God is omnipresent because Isaiah 66:1 tells us, “This is what the LORD says: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool.” Again Jesus assures us in Matthew 18:20 that “For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matthew 18:20). Anytime we believers gather or meet at a place in the name of the Lord, His name must be hallowed. In other words, wherever God chooses to be a place where He will have an encounter with a believer or believers becomes a place where His name must be hallowed. With this insight, we now understand that the Church building is not the only place God’s name must be hallowed but anywhere or everywhere a believer steps his or her foot or anywhere believers gather, God is with them, therefore His name must be hallowed. In Moses’ case, God said to him “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy ground.”(Exodus 3:5). This is a strong indication that God’s name must be hallowed anytime we have an encounter with Him. We are expected to be in a posture of humility and focus all our attention on Him, who has called us. It is rather unfortunate, that some Christians of our time lack the sense of worship and understanding that when we meet or come before God, His name must be hallowed through our conduct, dress, speech and general participation in worship service. There are some people who come to Church or the place where God’s name is expected to be hallowed yet they are busy on their phones throughout the period, others will be busy moving about without any reverence for the name of the Lord, others hardly pay attention because, for the entire period they spend in the presence of the Lord, they engaged in chit-chatting. Some people even desecrate the place where God’s name is being hallowed by chewing gum and affixing it on the furniture in the Chapel. Some even litter the place of worship.

Again some people swear with the name of the Lord or make jokes with His name even though we have been admonished that “You shall not misuse the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. (Exodus 20:7) Regrettably, many Christians in our generation lack the meaning of “Hallowed be your name” Beloved in the Lord, It is our duty or responsibility as believers or those who have been saved by grace to ensure that God’s name is hallowed everywhere we find ourselves. Let us repent of any action or deed that does not hallow the name of the Lord. Let us use the Lent season as an opportunity to understand the meaning of honouring or exalting the Holy name of our Lord with our lives. Amen.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, may your name be hallowed through our actions and speech, and may your glory never depart from us in this lent season and beyond. Amen
