REFLECTION

“I made your name known” is the theme for our reflection. To make someone’s name known is to reveal the identity or nature of the person. Jesus’ ministry or main duty on earth is to draw us closer to God by demonstrating His love to humanity through His teachings and actions. The name of an entity becomes known when the entity is impactful. For instance, the name or brand “Coca-cola” is known because people all over the world have tasted it. When people talk about Coca-Cola, they are not talking about how sweet the name sounds, but they are actually talking about how sweet the product or drink is. Similarly, when we hear the name of Jesus, we are fulfilled because through Jesus, we understand the love of God and the salvation He has offered us through the atonement of Jesus. Jesus, after He had accomplished the task of drawing the disciples and His followers closer to God and making Him known to them, He prayed “I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me. I pray for them.” (John 17:6-9)

The key question for our consideration, is how are we believers making the name of God known through our speech and actions and most importantly the love we show to people through Christ? Jesus is counting on us through the great commission in Matthew 28:18-20 to make the name of God known to the world. Let us use the lent season to reflect on our calling as disciples and ambassadors of God by offering ourselves as living sacrifices dedicated for purpose of reflecting the perfect image of Christ and making known the name of our God. Shalom.

PRAYER

Holy Spirit, help us to dedicate our lives as the ambassadors of Christ, through whom the world will know God. Strengthen us through our speech, action and most importantly through the preaching of the Gospel to make known the name of God to the world in this Lent season and beyond. Amen.
