SCRIPTURE READING – JOHN 18:33-37
REFLECTION
The theme for our reflection is “a different Kind of Kingdom” There are a lot of kingdoms but Jesus tells Pilate that He is from a different kind of Kingdom. It is a different kind of Kingdom because “Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.” (John 18:36)
Dear friend, Jesus came to usher us into His Kingdom, which is different from human kingdoms which are bedevilled by conspiracy, evil, chaos, injustice and unhealthy competition for political power. The Jewish leaders are a product of an earthly Kingdom however they tried to wrestle power with Jesus whose kingdom and power is not from this world. The Jewish leaders and Pilate were totally ignorant about who Jesus was and the Kingdom He represent on earth. Jesus comes from a different kind of kingdom which is everlasting. It is a Kingdom made for only those who are called the children of God, those who are saved through faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus assures us that “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. (John 14:1-3). Those who are unrepentant and do not have a salvific relationship with Jesus cannot experience the different kind of Kingdom Jesus is ushering us into after we have departed from this earth. The Kingdom of this world shall come to an end therefore let us set our hearts on the endless Kingdom of God which we shall inherit through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour. Shalom.
PRAYER
Holy Spirit, draw us closer to Jesus through repentance and faith so that we shall become the beneficiaries and heirs of the Kingdom of God. Amen.
